Maj + Tony // Literary Themed Winter Wedding

I am so excited to share a wedding that’s very close to my heart – my sister and brother-in-law’s literary themed winter wedding at Rock Island Lake Club!

As a wedding photographer, I have seen countless weddings unfold and am very familiar with “the wedding day” process. But this time, I had the unique opportunity to also be intimately involved in the planning process and see what the wedding day experience is like from the perspective of the wedding party. (Not only did I photograph the wedding, I was also a bridesmaid and the officiant!) I want to give a huge thank you to my trusted second shooters Susan and Nicolette and videographer Gianna Zoppi for all of their help – I literally couldn’t have done this without them!

While the girls got their hair and makeup done at the hotel, Tony and his groomsmen also decided to get pampered with traditional straight razor shaves at  High End Barbershop in Morristown.

Maj & Tony’s families poured an incredible amount of heart into making their day unique, personal, and special. The mother & godmother of the bride made the bouquet & flower arrangements with Floral Gems, Maj designed and made all of the paper goods and signage, and Maj and I dip dyed the georgette circle skirt that I sewed for her wedding dress.

Maj has a talent for all things design-related, so of course she made ever single piece of the invitation suite, the programs, the escort cards, menus, signs, and the labels for their personalized “punny” favors.

Maj even hand made all of the paper flower corsages & boutonnieres for the bridal party and family members. The guests and family members from the bride’s side wore blue and the groom’s side wore red – the purple color scheme of the wedding represented the joining of these two sides and the blending of two families into one.

Maj & Tony share a love of books, typography, and reading, so they decided to incorporate a literary theme throughout the wedding. The centerpieces included antique Danish books, Maj’s manicure was stamped with type from book pages, and in lieu of a guest book, the guests filed away their advice and best wishes in a thrifted library card catalog.

How awesome are those cuff links?? A gift from Maj, personalized with Tony’s logo!

After a sweet First Look, the guests made their way to the ceremony, participating in a “ring warming” on their way in.

With musical accompaniment by Lisa Frost-Goodall and friends & family looking on, I had the honor of pronouncing Maj & Tony husband and wife!

The proud family & friends headed downstairs to the cocktail hour and enjoyed delicious hors d’oeuvres, seafood, fondue, baked brie, bacon station, and drinks.

Everyone headed upstairs for the reception which kicked off with heartfelt speeches and an impressive choreographed first dance.

The day continued with dancing and more delicious food stations. Guests were welcome to have their silhouette portrait cut out by the talented Ruth Monsell or deck themselves out at the temporary tattoo station.

The night finished off with a hilarious “Shoe Game,” a traditional Danish kransekage, and then the married couple drove off into the sunset (literally) with a lavender toss send-off.

CONGRATULATIONS Maj & Tony! Thank you for letting me be a part of your special day. Wishing you all the best as Mr. & Mrs!  ❤ Lin
